This month we sat down with Lenore Hanks from Tackle World Bundaberg and asked a few questions.
Big Boss
Tackle World Bundaberg is one of over 40 independent, locally-owned stores located throughout Australia which are members of a national buying group called Tackle World Australia. Tackle World Bundaberg is also a member of a buying group called, Bargain Boat Bits which has over 30 stores Australia-wide. We are not a franchise; we are described as a co-operative. Being a financial and active member of these groups entitles Tackle World group members to purchase products at a discounted rate and allows us to be competitive and pass the savings on to our customers. Each store is locally owned and operated.
My husband and I owned and operated a marine mechanical workshop “Marine Torque” located at the Bundaberg Port Marina for over 11 years. The main activities were servicing, maintenance, engine rebuilds, and installation of engines and associated accessories. We worked on trawlers, commercial fishing vessels and pleasure craft. We sold this business in Year 2008. When Tackle World Bundaberg came up for sale in the Year 2017, we jumped at the chance to secure such a well-known and respected business.
30 years
8 full-timers and some junior casuals to brighten the place up on the weekends
Computer records show it’s been 19 years.
Prawns 200g
Sure do. Our kids were brought up fishing and camping in Bundy. It’s crazy that we seem to have less opportunity now to go fishing since we bought the business!!
Good ole prawns for estuary and pillys for offshore.
It is extremely important to have a supplier who visits and restocks our freezer on a weekly basis. Tweed Bait is affordable, and they have a good range. The sales rep is always a good laugh too!
An enthusiastic team willing to share their local knowledge and tips to help customers achieve what they’re after in their fishing and outdoor adventures. We pride ourselves on honesty, great customer service and after sales support. Our shop is located near the Burnett River so we can easily pop down to fault find a customer’s sounder or electric motor issue whilst on the water. There is always a familiar face around the shop as some team members have been here for over 20 years. We had a person retire recently after 29 years!
We recently undertook a change in our whole inventory (point of sale) and accounting programs, and I still have hair …. although the colour has changed a bit.
If you would like to pop in and see Lenore and the team their address is 22 Quay St, Bundaberg Central QLD 4670 or give them a call on 1800 822 553
