Mud Crabs are found along most of the east coast of Australia and across the top end and into warm temperate waters of WA. . Mud crabs are usually caught in traps or dillies with fish heads such as Mullet for bait.

CATCHING MUB CRABS:

Mud Crab favour soft muddy bottoms below the low tide level and are generally found in sheltered estuaries, mudflats, mangroves and the tidal reaches of some rivers. For best results place your crab Traps or Dilly’s in these areas leaving them 6-12 hours max checking them every 1-2 hours.

WHAT BAIT FOR MUD CRABS :

Any oily fish works well for catching Mud Crab the most popular is whole Mullet but you can also use Pilchards, (using a bait holder/keeper) Bonito, or our new “Kanga Bait”
